World News Tonight's David Muir Reacts to Being Labeled "Daddy"
David Muir is breaking the news on how he feels about being a “daddy.”
In response to social media users bestowing the looks-affirming title upon the World News Tonight host—and even creating a blog called Gimme Gimme Muir to lean into it—the 51-year-old shared his reaction to the hilarious trend.
"People will forward TikTok videos, but only because they are laughing out loud at them and making fun of me and saying, 'When did you become Daddy?'” David told People in an interview published May 30. “So I don't know whether that happens when you hit 50 or what, but I'll take it as a compliment, I think.”
Through laughter, he added, "Maybe it's lost on me, but I guess Daddy's better than the alternative."
But what makes the journalist chuckle even more is the truth that he doesn’t necessarily love dressing the part of news anchor.
“Anyone who works with me knows that I am so uncomfortable even having to put on the tux,” David continued. “So the fact that I survive those events is still a surprise to me without looking like a total nerd."
In fact, the self-described “nerd who felt this gravitational pull to the news” confessed his secret broadcast attire for when he reports from behind the ABC news desk.
"I generally have jeans on from the waist down," David explained. "So the first thing that we try to do is make sure my jeans aren't showing.”
He added, “I really don't try to take myself too seriously but I always just joke, 'Don't tell anyone about the jeans and the boots!'"
And while David is flattered by the discussions about his on-camera appearances, he admitted that his dog Axel is the real star.
“I love the stories of even when the dog walker is out in public, people will say, 'Is that David Muir's dog?'” he shared. “It kind of puts it all in perspective. The dog is always the most important."
In fact, the reporter believes his dog might be more famous than he is. "He deserves to be,” David quipped. “And he has no idea which makes it even more special."
